There are certain applications that require a red beam color at very high intensity.
Most red LED flashlights do not deliver a high beam intensity (because most are
specifically designed to afford maximum protection from reduction of night vision).
But now, the long days of wimpy red flashlights are over. At last, there is red LED
flashlight with real power, for situations that need it. We are pleased to announce
the new Xenopus Electronix 630 Extra Red Flashlight. This lightweight hand torch
has a powerful 3-Watt LED, with a peak wavelength of 630nm (a bright red color).
Applications include nature studies (red light reduces spooking of forest or jungle
animals), aquarium maintenance (red light reduces spooking of fish), and topical
phototherapy (red light may accelerate wound healing or enhance tissue repairs).
Strong red light also finds uses in medical transillumination, such as venipuncture
access in infants, and the Extra Red flashlight delivers a beam shape that may be
appropriate for these requirements. Also great for performance and party lighting.
Product Update: The original production version of this flashlight uses three AAA
batteries, and may become uncomfortably warm to the touch after the first several
minutes of operation. The three-battery model is perfect for short-interval applica-
tions that require maximum intensity. A second version is now available that uses
just two AAA cells. The new two-battery version is slightly less bright, but remains
comfortably cool to the touch throughout battery life, regardless of usage intervals.
The two-battery model may be more suitable tasks that involve longer usage inter-
vals, or where direct skin contact makes cooler operating temperatures desirable.
